#88: Millo’s Preston Lee on Driving Traffic to Your Blog, Getting Sponsorships and Launching Products

About the Episode:

In today’s episode, we’re talking to Preston Lee, the founder of Millo.co—a blog, community and phenomenal resource hub for all things freelancing.

Preston and I also co-host another podcast together called The Side Gig Show (along with Ian Paget) where we take turns diving deep into the tactics, strategies, ups, downs and decisions we’ve made—that have helped us grow our own side businesses over the past few years.

But for now, back to Preston—who we actually had on the podcast last year back to talk about how to book blog sponsorships… just after he left his day job to focus full-time on growing Millo.

Fast forward to today, Preston’s now got a well-oiled online business built around what originally started out as just his personal blog.

He now sells digital products, has several podcasts that attract great sponsors, books blog sponsorships and recently launched a curated weekly newsletter called SolidGigs (that I highly recommend) where he surfaces only the top 1% of freelance and remote jobs his team has found online over the past week.

In Today’s Episode, We Talk About:

[02:30] When he first launched his blog.
[04:39] When he began to take it so seriously.
[09:00] The percentage of revenue that comes from podcast sponsorships.
[10:44] Some of the first sponsors of his blog.
[13:03] How he landed them.
[27:50] How he convinces sponsors to come onboard.
[30:29] How he prices his sponsorships.
35:40 How he decides which topic to write about.
37:18 Advice for anyone looking o build a profitable blog.
39:54 The best investment he’s made in order to grow his business.
